Kabeberi 7s: Strathmore, KCB lead top guns angling for semis berth
Rugby elites powerhouse teams KCB RFC and Strathmore Leos are among the two teams to have secured passage to the main Cup quarterfinal stage of the fifth edition of the national Sevens Circuit title, the Kabeberi Sevens.
The pair are in a tight two-point race for the ultimate honours of the National Sevens Circuit and kept rolling their respective team brilliance to join six others in the decisive knockout phase.
The pre-tournament favorites, KCB, blitzed past Mombasa RFC and University of Nairobi’s Mean Machines to open their title defense on a dream start.
The team under Willy Ambaka, who took over the reins from Dennis Iron Man Mwanja, concluded their cruise with a win over Wanyore of Nakuru RFC to emerge as the top side in group A.
Bankers will now pit wits against Mwamba RFC with a place in the semifinal at stake.
Meanwhile, 2024 Kenya Cup winners, Kabras, are also among the teams in contention for a semis berth.
After enduring a tough outing of mixed results in the recent circuit, Kbaras seem to find their mojo back in the Kabeberi outing with a masterpiece of defensive performance.

The team trounced Menengai Oilers, Embu RFC, and Kisumu Rugby to top proceedings in their group D.
The Westerners are joined by Menengai Oilers, who also secured passage to the next knockout phase.
The Oilers will face off against DayStar Falcons in the quest to replicate their best stop in the Christie Sevens series when they lost the title to KCB.
In Group B, Willis Ojal’s Strathmore Leos will be seeking a fourth passage to the semifinals as they face Mombasa Sports Club Rugby in the knockout stage.
The others in the last eight are the Catholic University of East Africa (CUEA), the Catholic Monks, who will face off against Kabras.
The past circuits have seen KCB and Strathmore Leos trade rivalry, with Bankers bagging the first circuit in Driftwood Sevens
The scholars regrouped to serve a cold revenge. in the Prinsloo finals, beating Bankers for the title.
A resilient Bankers side nevertheless rose from the disappointment to win the Christie Seven title against Menengai before Startmore also bounced back, sealing a dramatic win in the recent edition of the Embu Sevens.
The university students sank their opponents 31-21 to lift the Embu 7s title at the ASK Ngujiri Showground on Sunday, August 24, 2025.
KCB won the 2024 edition by defeating Nakuru-based Menengai Oilers.
