Detectives have launched investigations into an armed robbery at a restaurant along General Mathenge Road in Nairobi’s Spring Valley area after four gunmen on motorcycles stormed the premises, robbed customers and fired shots before escaping.

In a statement issued on Sunday, July 5, 2026, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) said the robbery with violence occurred on Thursday at the restaurant in Westlands Sub-County.

According to the DCI, the four suspects, who were riding on two motorcycles, descended on the restaurant, robbed patrons of their valuables and discharged two rounds of ammunition into the air before fleeing towards the Parklands area.

Investigators recovered a spent 9mm cartridge at the scene, which has since been submitted for forensic examination.

The DCI said detectives have already recorded statements from several victims, while more victims and witnesses are expected to assist investigators as the probe continues.

The agency added that detectives from its Imaging and Acoustic Section are retrieving and analysing CCTV footage from the area in an effort to identify the suspects and reconstruct the events leading to the robbery.

Crime scene investigators have also collected and submitted critical exhibits recovered from the scene for forensic analysis.

“The Directorate of Criminal Investigations has commenced investigations into a robbery with violence incident that occurred yesterday at a restaurant along General Mathenge Road in Westlands Sub-County, Nairobi County,” the statement said.

The DCI said the investigation is being driven by intelligence and forensic evidence, with detectives pursuing leads aimed at identifying, arresting and arraigning the suspects.

“Intelligence and forensics-led investigations are ongoing, with efforts focused on identifying, apprehending, and arraigning the suspects before the courts,” the agency said.

The investigative agency assured members of the public of its commitment to protecting lives and property and ensuring those responsible for criminal acts are brought to justice.

The DCI appealed to anyone with information that could assist the investigation to report to DCI Gigiri, the nearest police station, or anonymously through the toll-free hotline and WhatsApp reporting channels.
