Junior Starlets matches
This encounter follows their recent 1-1 draw against Portugal on Friday, September 27, 2024, at the same venue.
Portugal took an early lead in the 24th minute through a penalty, holding a 1-0 lead at halftime. Despite a determined first-half effort from the Junior Starlets, they were unable to break Portugal’s defense.
In the second half, substitutions made a difference. Joan Ogola and Susan Akoth replaced Lorna Faith and Lindey Weey Atieno in the 58th minute, sparking a fresh offensive push.
Two minutes later, a swift passing sequence initiated by Susan Akoth allowed Marion Serenge to set up Valerie Nekesa, who then assisted Joan Ogola for the equalizer in the 60th minute. Despite several attempts to secure the win, the match ended in a 1-1 stalemate.
Earlier in the week, the Junior Starlets delivered an impressive performance, defeating Valencia CF Women 4-1 in a friendly held on Wednesday, September 25, 2024, at the Ciudad Deportiva del València CF grounds.

Valerie Nekesa opened the scoring in the 9th minute and doubled her tally in the 26th minute. Lindey Weey Atieno added a third goal just before halftime, and she netted again in the second half. Valencia managed to pull one back through a late penalty, but the match ended 4-1 in favor of the Starlets.
These friendly matches are critical in fine-tuning the Junior Starlets’ preparations ahead of their World Cup debut in the Dominican Republic, which kicks off on October 16, 2024, and runs until November 3, 2024.
The Starlets will face England on October 18, Korea DPR on October 20, and complete their group stage with a clash against Mexico on October 24
