Hussein Mohammed: We have given the national team a total of Ksh232M
The Football Kenya Federation (FKF) President Hussein Mohammed has said it has paid the national team a total of Ksh232 million.
Speaking during a live TV interview on Sunday, August 24, 2025, Mohammed indicated that the total allowances and bonuses from President William Ruto have been paid to the players and members of the technical bench.
“Ksh21 million has been paid to the players through allowances, then there is the money that was given by the president as bonuses. The allowances were paid in July when they were in camp and again on August 23, 2025,” Mohammed said.
Allowances and bonuses
“We have paid Ksh21 million in allowances from FKF and the balance from the bonuses; we are looking at Ksh232 million that has actually been given to the national team (the players and the technical bench),” Mohammed added.

Speaking on the successful run the Kenyan side had in the group stages, Mohammed credited the success to a combination of factors, including adequate preparation.
“I was very categorical that our administration will not interfere in the selection of players, and I stood my ground on this,” Mohammed stated.
Freedom to technical bench
“We gave the technical bench complete freedom, and we also appointed a competent team and gave them all the support that they required.”
“For the first time in CHAN’s history, we had almost 15 fan zones where Kenyans watched the quarter finals,” he said.
“I would have loved it if we got to the finals and won the title, but I think we have laid a good foundation.”

He hinted that the loss at the quarter finals to Madagascar may have been because Kenya and the fans had underestimated the strength of the islanders.
Madagascar eliminated Kenya after scoring four goals to Kenya’s three in a nail-biting penalty shootout.
“The mood at the beginning was very different from the mood at the end. Football is very unpredictable, and I think every Kenyan anticipated that the game with Madagascar would be an easier game,” Mohammed said.
“Sometimes that is the risk when you underestimate your opponent. I am not saying we underestimated our opponent. Everybody thought we would win, hence the massive disappointment.”
