Hussein Mohammed: This is the best CHAN ever

Football Kenya Federation (FKF) President Hussein Mohammed has stated that the Pamoja CHAN 2024 is the best to ever happen on the continent.

Speaking during a live TV interview on Sunday, August 24, 2025, Mohammed stated that the tournament was the best in terms of its organization, marketing, and publicity.

He equally stated that despite Kenya getting eliminated at the quarter finals, the tournament would remain one of the best the continent has ever organized.

Hype and buzz

“There has not been a CHAN competition that had the hype, attendance and buzz like the one that we are having, and I am so excited, as much as I am disappointed that Kenya is not playing in the finals,” Mohammed noted.

While dismissing challenges of ticketing and fan management at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani, Mohammed said that FKF had learnt a lot during the gaffes that were witnessed, promising that Afcon would even be a better experience.

“We had some challenges in the first two CHAN games that we hosted, but very quickly, the Local Organising Committee (LOC), chaired by Nicholas Musonye and me, realized that we needed to make some adjustments in terms of how we were organizing the event,” Mohammed observed.

Ticketing gaffes

He assured that the ticketing challenges and the overrunning of barriers by unticketed fans would soon be a thing of the past.

“By the time we got to our quarter finals, we had made significant progress on how to run the tournament. By the time we get to Afcon in 2027, I can assure you that we will have perfected the system, and we will host the best Afcon that Africa has ever seen,” Mohammed said.

“From the experience we have gotten with CHAN, this is the best CHAN ever, and I would challenge anybody to prove me otherwise.”

FKF was fined close to Ksh13 million over infractions of CAF rules, which saw a section of fans without tickets get into the stadium during the early matches.

Through limiting the number of tickets allowed in the stadium and imposing penalties, the incidents were drastically reduced.
