Frustrations and agitation: How Gor Mahia’s new coach’s KPL debut went down

Gor Mahia coach Sinisa Mihic finally marked his KPL bow in the match-week 20 clash against Mathare United on Saturday, February 8, 2025.
Clad in a white body-hugging t-shirt, black jeans and a branded K’Ogalo’s cap, Mihic provided much of a spectacle with his touchline antics as the tie did.
The trainer cut both an animated and frustrated figure on the sidelines as he guided the team through the 2-1 win.
Logarussic- esque
He had underscored the importance of a winning start and the target seemingly topped his priority as the tie kicked off to a rousing atmosphere of cheers and songs associated with the reigning league champions.
The coach could be seen gesturing to deliver his point, at one point cusping his hands to his mouth while barking instructions across the field.
In addition, the coach paced up and down the byline in what was likely reminiscent of the club’s trainer of old- Zdravko Logarussic. Paradoxically, the coach who enjoyed an impressive stint with Gor is a fellow Croat.
So forceful were his entreaties that the coach occasionally strayed on to the field of play, crossing paths with the referee’s assistant.
Perhaps with players not taking in his instructions, the coach occasionally turned to his arsenals on the bench where potential game-changers lie in wait. At one instance, the tactician was witnessed taking a knee with his back towards the pitch while delivering a message.

With proceedings not going as planned early on following Elli Asieche’s 16th-minute opener, Mihic grappled with the unforgiving heat that scorched the Dandora’s turf. The coach occasionally sought refuge in the water bottle he held in his hand.
Gor nonetheless rallied from behind to claim the win thanks to goals from Alphonce Omija and Enock Morrison assuring the Croat a wining debut.
The post-match assessment revealed all that was going on in the tactician’s mind during the clash.
Insights
“With that kind of pitch, it was hard for us to play the way we intended. The ball is bouncing too much and its very difficult. You have to play more vertically,” he said.
He however admitted to gaining crucial insights after the first competitive clash, adding too that there were plenty to redress going forward.
“I have seen my team in a competitive game. I now know much more than before. Once again, winning is always good. We need to be happy but also, we have some mistakes to correct,” he added.
Mihic’s works remain cut out as a further test of character lie in wait.
Gor next faces Tusker FC in the week 21 clashes. The Brewers will be eyeing a win as they look to reclaim the top spot they relinquished to Police FC after two draws on the bounce.
