Guango Football Club from Muchatha Ward, Kiambaa Constituency, Kiambu County, has unveiled an ambitious seven-year plan to secure promotion to the prestigious Football Kenya Federation-Premier League (FKF-PL), aiming to become the first-ever football club from the constituency to achieve this milestone.

Speaking yesterday in Muchatha during the club’s monthly ‘catch-up’ meeting, team manager Jackson Wambugu expressed his deep admiration for Kenya’s top-tier football league, adding that the club is already laying the groundwork to implement the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Club Licensing rules.

“We have always dreamt of playing in the premier league; that’s our ultimate goal. At the moment, we have developed a seven-year plan to get us there. We understand that financial resources are a challenge, but we will not stop knocking on potential sponsors’ doors until one finally opens,” said a determined Wambugu, emphasising that sports is a major financial investment with the potential to create numerous employment opportunities, particularly in rural areas.

The team manager, who is also a renowned sports journalist with Mediamax Limited’s Kameme TV, further revealed that he has tasked head coach Benson Kamau with leading a panel focused on establishing a women’s team and youth teams for both boys and girls.

The club plans to start with age categories for under-20, under-17, under-14, and under-10 school-going children. Their long-term vision includes owning a home stadium, moving away from their current base at Njenga Karume Stadium in Muchatha.

Guango FC is currently ninth on the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Central Regional League Zone D table with 25 points from 17 matches and are set to resume league action against seventh-placed Kawaida Youth on Sunday, April 20, at Kawaida Grounds in Cianda Ward.

Kawaida Youth sit just two points ahead, making this a crucial must-win fixture for Guango.

Wambugu  also serves as a player when called upon to mentor the younger squad members.

What’s more, he is now appealing to well-wishers, corporate sponsors, the Kiambu County Government, and other interested parties to support Guango FC financially.

He believes this backing will not only help the club achieve FKF-PL status within the next seven years but also uplift the untapped football talent in Muchatha Ward, Kiambaa.
