Newly-elected Gor Mahia Secretary General Nick Arum has hit out at the foreign players at the Football Kenya Federation Premier League club.

Arum is among the officials who were elected into office on Sunday, April 13, 2025, and even before the election dust settled, he has questioned the quality of some players at K’Ogalo.

He said some of these players cannot even be part of the second eleven team, let alone the starting XIs.

“We have to revisit the playing unit. That one, I cannot cheat you. There are some players who do not deserve to be in Gor Mahia, and that I have to tell you without blinking an eye.

“There are some foreigners who do not deserve to be there. Some of those foreign players cannot make it to the second eleven, let alone the first eleven,” Arum said, as quoted by a local publication.

However, Arum did not specifically mention any player he is questioning his ability.

Foreign players at Gor Mahia are Giscard Mavoungou and Gedeon Bandeka from the Democratic Republic of Congo, Pius Akena and Chris Bbaale from Uganda, Patrick Essombe Ekandjoum from Cameroon, and Ghanaian midfielder Enock Morrison.

Owalo’s promise

When he was unveiled as K’Ogalo’s deputy patron, Eliud Owalo explained that he would be keen to work with the new management to sign quality players.

He stated that Gor Mahia has the capacity to bring in quality players of the calibre of Khalid Aucho and Meddy Kagere, who lit up the league during their time.

“We would want to see a situation where, at the end of the season, we bring in quality players. I would like to see Khalid Aucho, Godfrey Walusimbi, and another Meddy Kagere, and we have the capacity to bring in such players,” the former Cabinet Secretary said.
