Gor Mahia slip as AFC Leopards bag third straight league win
AFC Leopards continued their growing momentum in the SportPesa League with a solid 2-0 victory over Mathare United at Nyayo National Stadium on Sunday, November 2, 2025, sealing a third straight win and pushing themselves firmly into the title conversation.
On the same afternoon, Gor Mahia dropped points after being held 1-1 by Ulinzi Stars at Kasarani, allowing Kakamega Homeboyz to stay on top.
AFC Leopards lifted their momentum again after the break, breaking down a disciplined Mathare United side to secure a third straight victory and stay unbeaten this season. Vincent Mahiga opened the scoring three minutes into the second half before James Kinyanjui sealed the result late on.
For Mahiga, it was a rare goal – his first in three seasons and only his second for the club. Kinyanjui’s strike carried personal weight as it was his first goal since joining Leopards from KCB.
Fred Ambani kept faith with the same side for the third match running, showing how settled and confident his squad has become. Christopher Koloti came in for Samuel Ssenyonjo, while Mathare made changes after their recent clash with Gor Mahia. John Macharia earned a first start as the Slum Boys looked to respond after an inconsistent run.
Both teams created early opportunities. Kelly Madada struck the upright in the tenth minute, and later forced Mathare goalkeeper Kevin Ouru into a sharp save just before the break. Mathare’s best chance came from an Elly Asieche free-kick that skipped narrowly wide.
But Leopards returned from the break sharper and more decisive. Mahiga struck first, and when Julius Masaba dribbled past three defenders to set up Kinyanjui near the end, the points were sealed. The victory lifts Ingwe to third place on 12 points as they prepare for Murang’a SEAL next weekend.

Gor held despite dominance
Across town, Gor Mahia dominated Ulinzi Stars but could not turn possession into victory. Felix Oluoch put them ahead in the sixth minute following neat build-up play from Alpha Onyango and Wendo. With most of the ball, Gor looked set for a fourth straight win.
However, Ulinzi refused to roll over. Boniface Muchiri reacted quickest to a loose ball on 34 minutes and levelled against the run of play. From there, the soldiers defended with discipline and relied on the counter.
Elsewhere, Shabana’s struggles continued after being held to a goalless draw by Kariobangi Sharks at Kasarani on Saturday. Despite creating chances, Shabana could not find a winner, with Austine Odongo’s late strike ruled offside. Injuries have disrupted Peter Okidi’s side, who now sit mid-table after early-season promise.
After seven rounds, Kakamega Homeboyz lead on 14 points, one ahead of Gor Mahia – with a game in hand. AFC Leopards sit third on 12 points, level with Posta Rangers but with momentum clearly building. The title race already looks tight, and with Gor and Leopards both chasing consistency, the coming weeks promise a fierce battle at the top.
