Record league champions Gor Mahia FC have gone all out to secure important signings just hours to deadline day with the biggest news being of the return of the prodigal son Benson Omalla.

The defending FKF-Premier league champions have onboarded three foreigners into their roster as they seek to make good what has been a tricky season. Now third on the log with 36 points, K’Ogalo will peg their eyes on the new faces to help them achieve the ultimate target under Croatian tactician Sinisa Mihic.

Incoming into the fray at Gor Mahia is exciting offensive player Ben Stanley Omondi from Kakamega Homeboyz, winger Patrick Essombe from Cameroon, Ugandan attacker Charles Bbaale, Kibra United midfielder Sydney Ogutu, Congolese goalkeeper Gispard Mavongou, and US-based Harambee Stars U23 center-back Faiz Ouma Opande.

With the 2024/25 reigning league top scorer Omalla from the Lebanese side Al Safa FC, the K’Ogalo attack is likely to spring up again, having struggled in recent times. The Kenyan international did not last long in the war-torn Middle Eastern country and had to return home after the club failed to register him this season. During the past four months, the Ex-Western Stima forward was training with local teams back in Kisumu to gain his fitness.

All eyes will be on the foreign legion of Mavoungou (AS Otoho), Bbaale (Rayon Sports), and Essombo (Union Sportive de Douala) and the impact they will make to resurrect the fortunes of the club. With an ever-anxious and expectant charged fan base, the new kids on the block know the heavy load on their shoulders. Lately, fans have been up in arms accusing the Management of signing below par players from across the borders. This issue has been subject to intense online debate, with claims of internal sabotage from some officials in recruitment policy.

K’Ogalo has also recently seen youngsters Enock Wanyama, Musa Masika, and Dolph Junior released from the club. At the same time, youngster Brighton Onyuna has been elevated from the youth squad to the senior team after a recommendation by the technical bench.

Meanwhile, it is now confirmed and official that long-serving Gor Mahia Chairman Ambrose Rachier will be seeking re-election. The veteran administrator and City lawyer has been at the helm of K’Ogalo for 16 years and has declared his intentions to run again in the forthcoming polls. There is a great split in the Executive and fan-base over the move, with some now wanting the most-successful premier league club boss to stand down and let in fresh blood.
