Gor Mahia down Muhoroni Youth to pile pressure on Posta Rangers

By , November 26, 2023

Gor Mahia moved to within a point of Posta Rangers after a 2-0 Football Kenya Federation Premier League win over Muhoroni Youth at the Raila Odinga Stadium on Sunday, November 26, 2023.

Benson Omala and Christopher Ochieng struck to hand K’Ogalo the victory, which takes their tally so far to 24 points, just one point below Posta Rangers.

Omala, who scored his maiden Harambee Stars goal against Seychelles in a 2026 World Cup qualifier in Ivory Coast over the FIFA international break, scored in the 16th minute to put the reigning Premier League champions ahead.

Muhoroni solidified as the first half drew to a close and the teams went for the half-time break, with Omala’s goal being the difference.

Gor Mahia’s head coach, Johnathan McKinstry, made a change in the 68th minute when Rooney Onyango –  who was starting after another stellar performance for Harambee Stars, was injured and replaced him with Paul Ochuoga.

Austin Odhiambo and Omala were withdrawn in the subsequent changes, and Kevin Juma and Patrick Kaddu, who recently returned from an injury spell, took their places.

The 20-time Premier League winners scored the second goal late in the second half. Ochuoga provided the assist for Ochieng to score and seal the victory for K’Ogalo.

The result means that Gor Mahia emphatically returned to winning ways after drawing in the last two matches before the November international break.

Police win, Seal downed

At Sudi Stadium in Bungoma, Kenya Police defeated the host by a 3-1 margin. The win boosts the Police’s season morale, while the Sugar Millers will see their winless run continue.

At St. Sebastian Park, Murang’a Seal, who held Gor Mahia to a goalless draw in their previous game, fell to a 2-1 loss to visiting KCB.

Haniff Wesonga scored the second goal for the Bankers in the 48th minute after he superbly connected with a cross delivered by Stephen Etyang.

Seal, who have been quite impressive in their debut season, denied Bernard Mwalala’s charges a clean sheet when Batts Awita scored in the 89th minute.
