Football Kenya Premier League leaders Gor Mahia have asserted their dominance in the FKF Premier League team of the first leg, as announced by the competition organizers.
The team is spearheaded by goalkeeper Kevin Omondi, who has displayed a stellar performance in the opening leg, starting in all of his first 19 matches.
Gor Mahia’s keeper
Omondi boasts an impressive record, having kept 13 clean sheets and nearing a remarkable seven consecutive clean sheets set earlier this season.
He is also on the verge of matching the clean sheet tally that earned Gad Mathews the Golden Glove last season, having conceded only seven goals.
The defensive lineup features Gor Mahia fullbacks Rooney Onyango and Geoffrey Onyango. Rooney’s outstanding performances in the early matches of the season earned him a spot in the Harambee Stars squad, solidifying his position as a key player.
In the center-back positions, KCB’s Haniff Wesonga and Posta Rangers’ Kennedy Odhiambo, both instrumental for their respective sides, form a robust defensive partnership.
The three-man midfield comprises Gor Mahia’s Alpha Onyango, alongside his teammate Austine Odhiambo, known for netting crucial goals this season, and Tusker’s Saphan Oyugi.
The forward trio includes Nairobi City Stars’ Samuel Kapen, Geoffrey Ochieng, and the FKF Premier League’s leading scorer Benson Omalla.
Gor Mahia’ striker
Despite Omalla’s recent goal drought, he maintains a comfortable lead in the top scorers chart after week 19 matches.
With nine goals to his name, he is closely pursued by Tusker’s Erick Kapaito, who has been in lethal form and is determined to challenge for the Golden Boot.
While Omalla and Patrick Kaddu are expected to remain pivotal in Gor Mahia’s attack, the addition of Sheriff Musa from Bidco United could introduce competition for the striking positions.
Other notable scorers in the league include Boniface Muchiri of Ulinzi Stars, Moses Shummah of Kakamega Homeboyz, Vincent Owino of Nairobi City Stars, Francis Kahiro of Bandari, and Tito Okello of Kenya Police, all with six goals.
It is worth noting that Kahiro scored his goals while still playing for his former side, KCB FC, before joining Bandari. Okello, who initially featured for Gor Mahia, has made a significant impact since his return to the FKF Premier League with Kenya Police. His impressive form could signal a remarkable comeback to prominence.
