Girl’s teams headed to Jomo Kenyatta High School for Sevens rugby tournament

A total of ten girls’ high school teams will be at the Jomo Kenyatta High School in Nakuru to contest for the secondary school girl’s Sevens competition.

Divided into two pools of five schools per group, the competition is set to kick off this Saturday at 9 am when Batuk will face Olbonata before Hidden Talent locks horns with Eregi at 9.20 am

Hosts Jomo Kenyatta will kick off their campaign at 9.40 am before leaving the pitch for Mabera and Gatero who will play the last match before the first break which will last forty minutes.

Undoubtedly Pool A will be the pool of death where Batuk and Hidden Talent will be fighting for top honours while in Pool B hosts Jomo Kenyatta will hope to survive opposition from St Joseph to command the group.

Pool A is made up of Mazeras from Mombasa County, Hidden Talent from Nairobi, Eregi, Olbonata and Batuk from Laikipia while pool B will be contested by Mema, Mabera, Gatero, St Joseph and Jomo Kenyatta.

Each team is expected to play a total of five fixtures on the opener’s day to determine the top eight who will proceed to the Cup quarterfinals knockouts while the bottom team from each of the two pools will meet in a ninth and 10th playoff on Sunday morning.

The losers of the Cup quarterfinals will shift focus to the fifth-place semifinals while the winners will crossover to the main Cup semifinals that will kick off at 12.40 pm.

After the semis, the seventh and eighth layoffs will be contested followed by fifth place, bronze playoff and finally the match to determine the champion will be staged at 3.00 pm.

Kenya Rugby Union Director in charge of Rugby development Kikechi Kombo told Wikendi Sport that the the union is focused on delivering a smooth and competitive girl’s rugby competition this weekend.                                            

“All is set for the big tournament and we expect a smooth competition amongst our top ten girl’s schools in Kenya,” Kombo said.
