FKF PL preview: Gor Mahia eye end to inconsistent run against Homeboyz
Record Kenya Premier League champions Gor Mahia return to action this Wednesday, December 17, 2025, with a crucial midweek league fixture against Kakamega Homeboyz.
The 4:00 pm clash in Kasarani will be one of four Matchweek 14 fixtures scheduled across the country.
Inconsistent run
Gor Mahia heads into the clash eyeing a first win in three games. K’Ogalo has endured an inconsistent run so far this campaign and remains winless since their shocking defeat to AFC Leopards in the Mashemeji Derby almost a fortnight ago.
At Mbaraki Stadium on Friday, December 12, 2025, Gor failed to put their derby sorrows to rest as a resilient Bandari side rallied to snatch a point in a 1-1 draw.
The result highlighted an aspect of the team’s recent struggles under coach Charles Akonnor: despite scoring few goals, the side has been vulnerable at the back and prone to conceding late.
Akonnor admitted his charges had conceded a strange set-piece goal. “It was a bit strange how we conceded the goal, and we have to go back and look at how it went in,” he stated.

The Ghanaian expressed concern over the state of the Mbaraki surface and hopes his players summon a different display to secure a home victory.
Head-to-head
Meanwhile, despite enjoying a superior head-to-head record against Kakamega Homeboyz, Gor will need to be wary of Patrick Odhiambo’s side, who are menacingly close just below them in the standings.
Homeboyz are ranked sixth and trail Gor only on goal difference. The positioning adds a fresh twist to the clash, with the winner set to reach 23 points and move into the top three.
The Kakamega-based team has recorded two draws and one win since their last defeat against Mathare United on November 30, 2025.
Key players
The draw came amid managerial changes at the Dockers club, highlighting the gravity of the situation at the former KPL champions.
Gor will look to draw inspiration from Shariff Musa, who has been in splendid form recently. The FKF Premier League Player of the Month for October laid the ball on a plate for Ebenezer Adukwaw, who scored the opener to continue his fine run for the club.
On their part, Homeboyz will rely on Congolese forward George Bendeka, who will be hoping for a dream return against his former employers. The Congolese import was deemed surplus to requirements at Gor, prompting his switch to their league rivals.
The other Wednesday’s clashes will see Shabana FC host an in-form Mara Sugar in Gusii Stadium at 3:00 pm.
Tusker FC will also be in action with a date against Nairobi United at San Sebastien Park in Murang’a County, as Mathare and Sofapaka lock horns at the Kasarani Annex at 3:00 pm.
