FKF forced to break Junior Starlets break camp
The Football Kenya Federation (FKF) has been compelled to bring an early end to the Junior Starlets camp ahead of the CECAFA U18 tournament.
The decision was made due to the uncertainty surrounding the scheduling of the tournament. The tournament was scheduled to start on June 3 and end two weeks later on June 17. The dates later changed to June 24 and later 29.
Junior starlets set to leave
As a result, the players and coaching staff are expected to conclude their camp activities on Friday, June 30, 2023.
In an official statement, the FKF expressed its regret over the cancellation of the Junior Starlets Camp, which was initially intended to prepare the talented young footballers for the upcoming CECAFA U18 tournament.
The federation emphasized that the decision was made in light of the prevailing uncertainties surrounding the tournament’s schedule.
“Football Kenya Federation deeply regrets to announce the calling off, of the Junior Starlets Camp, which was intended to prepare our talented young footballers for the CECAFA U18 tournament. This decision has been made due to the prevailing uncertainty surrounding the tournaments’ scheduling,” FKF statement stated.
Furthermore, the FKF expressed its gratitude to the Ministry of Youth Affairs, Arts, and Sports, as well as the Ministry of Education, for their unwavering support extended to the team during the preparation phase.
“FKF has always prioritized the development and growth of our young footballers, and the Junior Starlets team was an essential part of our commitment to nurturing talent and providing opportunities for our youth,” the statement revealed.
“The Federation acknowledges the hard work, dedication, and sacrifices made by the players and coaching staff throughout the preparation period,” FKF noted.
The Junior Starlets, who have been in camp at the Moi International Sports Centre in Kasarani since June 8, 2023, concluded their training sessions on Thursday with a friendly match against Mathare United Women.
