FIVB Women’s World Championship: Malkia Strikers final squad set to be named

Kenya Volleyball Federation is set to name the women’s national volleyball team, Malkia Strikers‘ final squad of 14 players that will feature in the 2025 FIVB Women’s World Championship in Thailand.

The final squad will be unveiled on Wednesday, August 13, 2025, at a Nairobi hotel starting at 2 pm.

A provisional squad of 18 players has been in residential training at the Nyayo National Stadium gymnasium in Nairobi for weeks. The national women’s volleyball technical bench had, on Friday, July 25, 2025, whittled down the squad to 20 players ahead of the FIVB Women’s Volleyball World Championship in Thailand.

The upcoming event in Asia will run from August 22 to September 7, 2025. A provisional squad of 29 players has been undergoing non-residential training at Nyayo National Stadium in Nairobi, honing their skills ahead of the showpiece.

The provisional squad comprises;

Setters ( Emmaulate Nekesa, Fridah Boke
and Marclean Okoko)

Opposite hitter (Mercy Iminza, Malyne Terry, Loice Simiyu, and Pamela Adhiambo )
Middle blockers( Belinda Barasa,Elizabeth Sokoiyo , Gladys Ekaru ,Lorine Chebet,
and Pauline Chemtai )

Outside hitters ( Daisy Leting, Veronica Adhiambo, Juliana Namutira, Sarah Namisi
and Captain Meldina Sande)

Liberos (Celestine Nafula, Sharlene Maywa
and Dolphine Misoki).

Those dropped are setters Kenya Defence Forces Vallerie Chepkoech and Directorate of Criminal Investigations Vivian Vugutsa, libero Peninah Wafula and Kenya Prisons Sharon Sandui, who is yet to recover from the injury she picked up during the Kenya Cup semifinal match against KCB Women’s Volleyball Team.

Others left are attackers Valentine Jemutai and Miriam Musa, as well as opposite hitter Deborah Sang and middle blocker Lydia Iswan.

The final squad of 14 players will be named before the team’s departure to Vietnam next month for an international friendly event scheduled between August 15 and August 20, 2025.

The technical bench is composed of head coach Geoffrey Omondi, assistant coaches Esther Jepkosgei and David Muthui and trainer Azenga Mavisi. The team’s physiotherapist is Sarah Karongo.

Malkia Strikers will be jetting out of the country just days after the U-20 team, Junior Malkia Strikers, were crowned the African Championship winners in Cameroon, after edging the host nation in the final on Monday, August 11, 2025.
