Junior Starlets head coach Mildred Cheche has named the final squad that will take part in the upcoming U17 Women’s World Cup set to take place in the Dominican Republic.

A number of players who took part have missed out, and the Football Kenya Federation has explained why such a decision has been made.

“12 players, including Claire Meris and Mitshelle Waithera, have not been selected for the final roster. Despite their significant contributions during the World Cup qualifiers, the coaching staff felt it was essential to prioritise a balance of fitness, form, and tactical alignment to ensure the team’s readiness for the challenges ahead.

“Sheryl Amuok is another notable absentee from the squad, having sustained a knee injury during the East Africa School Games. Despite not making the final roster, these players remain key figures in the programme, and their commitment has played an essential role in the team’s journey to this point,” FKF said.

Junior Starlets, with 23 players, will train in Spain before heading to finals. The payers have been scheduled to travel to Europe on Thursday, September 19, 2024, for the pre-World Cup training programme.

Kenya will start their group stage campaign on October 18 with a match against England before a match against South Korea two days later. The final match will see the World Cup debutants face Mexico on October 24.
