The Football Kenya Federation (FKF) has revealed why the Junior Starlets trip to Spain for a pre-World Cup training programme was rescheduled.
Initially, the Starlets had been programmed to leave for Europe on Tuesday, September 10, 2024, but the trip has been delayed for nine more days.
“The Kenya U17 women’s camp in Spain, originally scheduled for September 10, 2024, has been postponed and will now commence on September 19, 2024. This adjustment will allow the team additional time to continue fine-tuning their local preparations.
“Junior Starlets are now in their seventh day of training as they prepare for their debut at the 2024 FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup, set to take place in the Dominican Republic,” FKF’s statement read.
Meanwhile, Elizabeth Ochaka, who is the captain of the team, promised that they will fight hard and deliver what is expected of them during the Dominican Republic finals.
“Qualifying for the World Cup is a huge achievement, especially being the first Kenyan team to do it in the world of football. We don’t take this chance for granted. Our goal is to go there and compete, not just participate,” Ochaka said, as quoted by the FKF’s website.
She is hopeful that good fortunes will follow them for participating in the global showpiece that will run from October 16 to November 3, 2024.
“Playing at the World Cup will bring us many opportunities, like getting scouted to play for international teams, which has always been a dream for many of us,” the Starlets U17 captain added.
Kenya, in Group C, will commence their campaign on October 18 against England before a clash against South Korea two days later. On October 24, they will conclude their preliminary duties against Mexico.
