Trans Nzoia Falcons got back to winning ways at the weekend following their first-round disappointments in the women’s premier league.
Falcons who drew in Round 1 recovered to snatch a 2-1 win over Wadadia FC at Kenyatta Grounds in Kitale to move top of the standings with six points albeit with a match extra played.
A brace from forward Tumaini Waliaula in the 43rd minute and 67th minute was enough to earn the victory at home on Saturday with Amida Wesonga of Wadadia opening the scores in the 13th minute. It was a fairly balanced match with no incidents warranting any booking from the centre referee.
In another duel, Kisumu All-Starlets continued with their poor start to the league after losing their second consecutive match 2-4 against Thika Queens at Moi Stadium.
All-Starlets whose first match was a 0-1 loss away to Nakuru Queens, were once again found wanting in the backline which exposed them badly.
Goals for the winning team came from red-hot Wendy Atieno who notched a hattrick in the 17th, 42nd and 52nd minutes as she ultimately became the top scorer after Match Day 2.
Thika Queens who also lost their season opener regrouped ably in this match with their other goal of the match coming off Stella Odhiambo in the 46th minute of the game just before half-time.
The two goals by All-Starlets were scored by Monica Etot and Jecinta Nyambok in the 14th and 62nd minutes of play. The pair were incidentally booked in the same match for retaliation.
As for Thika Queens who are up to sixth on the log with three points, they were unlucky to see Georgina Karani head for the showers in the 74th minute of the game following a red card shown after violent conduct.
Meanwhile, the match pitting Vihiga Queens and Zetech Sparks failed to kick off after the latter failed to show up for the fixture. After that incident, Queens got a walkover and two goals which then pushes them to joint fifth with three points off two matches.
The game was scheduled for yesterday at the Mumias Complex in Kakamega County.
