As rugby action gains momentum, all eyes will turn to Embu this weekend as the fourth leg of the 2025 National Sevens Circuit, the Embu Sevens, kicks off on Saturday, August 23, and continues to Sunday, August 24, 2025, at the Njukiri Showground.

The two-day rugby spectacle is set to feature thrilling action across Division One, Division Two, and the ladies’ category.

Following the Christie Sevens draw, the Division One pools have been finalised, setting up mouthwatering clashes among Kenya’s top rugby sevens sides in the ladies category.

This category has been structured into two tiers, just like the men’s. Tier One (Pool A) features Mwamba RFC, Kenya Harlequin FC, Impala RFC, and Northern Suburbs. After winning the Prinsloo 7s and the Christie 7s, the in-form Mwamba RFC will be seeking to cement their supremacy at the Sevens Circuit in Embu.

Kenya Harlequin will also be keen on the silverware after finishing runner-up at the Prinsloo and Christie 7s back-to-back. Tier two (Pool B) brings together NYS Ladies, Ruck IT Rugby, Meru Ladies, and Murang’a Trojans.

Men’s Division One pools

In this Category, current circuit leaders KCB RFC headline Pool A and will face a stern test against Daystar Falcons, Mwamba RFC, and tournament hosts Embu RFC.

Pool B is led by Strathmore Leos, who will lock horns with Impala RFC, Kabras Sugar, and newly promoted Kabete Stallions.

In Pool C, Menengai Oilers are grouped alongside their Nakuru neighbours Nakuru RFC, Nondescripts, and the returning Mean Machine RFC.

Pool D promises equally tough encounters as Kenya Harlequin take on Catholic Monks, MMUST RFC, and invitational side Zetech Oaks.

Division Two pools

The second-tier competition has attracted 20 teams, distributed into five pools of four. Selection was based on specific criteria: five slots for affiliate clubs, eight for central region-based teams, five for sides earning their place through performance, and two for other regional representatives.

The pools are as follows:

Pool A: AP Warriors, TUM Marines, Dedan Marshalls, KCA University

Pool B: Homeboyz RFC, Northern Suburbs, JKUAT Cougars, Nyeri Polytechnic

Pool C: Kiambu Rugby, NYS Spades, Kirinyaga Stallions, Jeremiah Nyaga TTC

Pool D: KU Blak Blad, Kabarak University, Murang’a Trojans, MKU Thika

Pool E: Western Bulls, Makueni RFC, Chuka University, Jackals

As the circuit heads into its crucial stages, teams will be eager to secure vital points in the chase for the 2025 National Sevens Circuit title.
