EAC Secretary General Veronica Nduva has congratulated the Tanzania national team, Taifa Stars, after their stellar start to the African Nations Championship (CHAN) with a 2-0 win over Burkina Faso on Saturday, August 2, 2025.

Taking to his X page on Sunday, August 3, 2025, Nduva also hailed the country’s showing during the opening ceremony, terming it a manifestation of the region’s capacity to not only host the monumental games but also make the experience a memorable one.

“Congratulations to the Taifa Stars for a stellar performance at the opening of #CHAN2024. The United Republic of Tanzania has set the tone, affirming the EAC’s capacity to successfully host global events and deliver exceptional experiences to the world! Congratulations to H.E. President @SuluhuSamia and the Government of the United Republic of Tanzania @ikulumawasliano for the impeccable preparations, security, and hospitality,” she said.

With Tanzania having bagged their victory, focus now shifts to the other hosts, Kenya and Uganda, who will be in action in the coming days, with Kenya first on the playing field against DR Congo this Sunday, August 3, 2025.

Nduva conveyed her best wishes to the teams ahead of their respective encounters.

“Wishing the rest of the EAC teams success as they take to the field!” she added.

Harambee Stars clash against DR Congo will be staged at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani.

Meanwhile, speaking ahead of the Kenya-DRC tie, skipper Abud Omar reiterated the team’s readiness for the 2024 continental assignment.

Speaking on Saturday, August 2, 2025, Omar said the mood in the Stars camp is on a high after President William Ruto pledged a lucrative cash reward following his visit to the team.
