Dagoretti High School overpowered Highway Secondary beating them 1-0 in the Nairobi region’s final staged at Moi Girls’ Nairobi Grounds on Tuesday afternoon.

Midfielder Dismus Ongeche Barongo gave a composed Dagoretti a deserved lead in the 22nd minute with a grass cutting thunderbolt from outside the area. Highway Secondary, led by Harambee Starlets under -18 team coach Beldin failed to show their sparkles in the first half and efforts for comeback were shuttered by an overworking Dagoretti defence.

Dagoretti High head coach Joseph Makokha was in absolute delirium after the victory that ensured they reclaim the Nairobi title and a return to the national games next month.

“I am so excited for this win, it means a lot for the players and the school. We have put in the work and we have seen the fruits of that labour. We are going to the nationals to once again show our talents,” a joyful Makokha coach said.

Kawangware’s Dagoretti Mixed Secondary School trounced their regional rivals Olympic Secondary 2-0 in the girls final to book the coveted ticket for the national championships.

Phila Khayesi, a form one student scored a brace in the 12th and 27th minute to sink a hard fighting Olympic.

Dagoretti Mixed head coach Joseph Orao acknowledged that their opponents were a hard nut crack but thank his players for showing resilience in the entire game, adding that the focus now is to qualify for the East African tournament.

“The game was very tough for my girls probably because we had not met previously at such a stage. I am glad that we managed to contain the pressure to emerge victorious. Now we want to train hard to so as we get qualification to East African Games. We are going to the national school games to give a good show,” said joyful Orao after the victory.

Dagoretti Mixed will be making a third appearance at the national level.

Elsewhere, Soweto Secondary continued their dominance in the region’s girls’ volleyball as they hammered Brown Hill Secondary 3-0 with ease to confirm their slot for national games.

Ruthimitu High School defended their boys’ volleyball title after battling and thrashing former giants Hospital Hill 3-1.

The term two National School Games are set for 7th -12th August at the Kakamega School.
