AFC Leopards skipper Lewis Bandi believes the team’s 3-1 victory against Mathare United can spur them to a spirited conclusion to the 2024/25 Premier League campaign.

Ingwe embarked on its final league run-ins with the comfortable win over Mathare United on Wednesday, May 15, 2025, in Dandora, with Bandi terming the win as a proper motivation to spur the team to more success.

“This performance is a product of the hard work we have been putting into our training sessions. On the pitch, it has been the mere implementation of what we have been working on, and it came out as planned,” the skipper told People Daily Digital Sports.

Kayci Odhiambo opened the scoring in the first half before Christopher Koloti extended the advantage to see Ingwe on a solid cushion heading to the break.

Ronald Shichenje’s second-half goal ensured maximum points for the former KPL giants, with Mathare claiming a late consolation goal minutes to the final whistle.

League targets

“It feels good to get such results as we head towards the end of the league. We have the desire to see that we end the league better, and this result goes hand in hand with that target,” he added.

Fred Ambani’s team, ranked sixth on the log with 45 points, has four games to conclude their season duties. Among the clashes in their unfinished business roster is a high-billed clash against rivals Gor Mahia.

The clash earlier scheduled for the May 11, 2025 weekend was postponed due to a lack of venue. Ingwe’s skipper, however, believes the cancellation of the tie will accord the team more time to prepare against the league’s defending champions.

“The postponement has not really disrupted our preparations. Rather, it is a motivation. We now have the avenue to step up our preparations, try to win the coming games, and hopefully get to the derby in better shape,” Badi said.

The versatile midfielder further urged the club’s faithful to keep the faith and expect a result when the new dates for the billed derby are announced.

“Our fans should turn up in huge numbers for the derby. We promise to give our best show and get the three points from the derby when the dates finally come,“ he pledged.

Leopards will next travel to Mombasa to face Bandari in their week 31 league clash.
