City Stars protest ‘unfair’ match officiating in Bandari tie

By , February 2, 2023

Football Kenya Federation Premier League side Nairobi City Stars has lodged a formal complaint to the league managers over what they termed as unfair officiating of their match against their opponents Bandari away at Mbaraki Sports Complex last weekend.

Through a letter seen by People Sport, the Club issued a strong-worded statement condemning the match as manipulated and therefore the 2-1 result by the home team was unjustified and should be quashed.

Simba wa Nairobi conceded what appeared to be a fishy penalty after the allotted extra time which irked the away team who stormed the pitch in anger led by Coach Nicholas Muyoti.

The Club’s boss Patrick Korir pushed for the nullification of the match, a rematch to be ordered and the expulsion of the manipulators of the game.

“Following events that transpired in Mbaraki on Sunday-January,29,2023 during match day 13 of the Premier League tie against hosts Bandari, Nairobi City Stars wish to highlight what we and no doubt many others consider an act of match manipulation.

“There were several incidents in the closing part of the match that led us to believe the same including the unjustified prolongation of the match, as well as a chain of events leading to a dubious award of a penalty.

“Our views have been corroborated by many who watched the game, which was both attended, as well as being streamed live,” the statement read in part.
