2024 World Rugby U20 Trophy: Chipu squad to face Hong Kong China named

The Chipu squad that will face Hong Kong China in a deciding 2024 World Rugby U20 trophy seventh-place match on Wednesday, July 17, 2024, has been named.

Kenya will take on the Asian side at the Hive Stadium in Edinburgh, Scotland and this will be the second meeting between the two sides. The first meeting was in July 2023 when Kenya hosted the U20 Trophy. Kenya emerged winners when they met again last year in pool matches where Chipu picked up a 22-16 scoreline.

In a lead-up match ahead of the clash with Chipu, Hong Kong China were beaten in all their pool matches. On match day one, they suffered a 20-105 loss to Japan, before they lost 0-101 to hosts Scotland in matchday two. On matchday three, they lost 19-39 to Samoa.

Chipu have also not had a good run as they lost 25-7, 51-3, and 17-30 to Uruguay, Netherlands, and the USA, respectively.

Meanwhile, there are two positional changes in the in starting lineup revealed by Simon Jawichre as shared by Kenya Rugby Union (KRU). Andycole Omolo has been moved from the back row to lock as Elvis Otete has been shifted from the left side to the right side wing.

Nathan Tsindoli, Eugene Ojiambo and Daniel Kipchirchir will get starting slots and this meant they have been promoted from the bench. Willy Tino, who last appeared for Chipu on match day one returns and will be starting among the benchers on Wednesday. This is also the same case for Dennis Ndayala who makes his first appearance for Chipu against Hong Kong China in this tournament and will start off the bench.

Michael Wamalwa, Faran Juma, Clein Okumbi, Daniel Kiptoo and Alvin Khavoli will not be available for the action against Hong Kong.
