Charles Akonnor contented as Gor Mahia drop points against Shabana FC
Gor Mahia head coach Charles Akonnor is satisfied with a 0-0 stalemate that his men recorded against Shabana FC in a Sportpesa League fixture staged at the Gusii Stadium on Sunday, January 11, 2026.
K’Ogalo failed to find the back of the net after scoring fourvagainst Kariobangi Sharks in their previous outing, while for the Glamour Boys, it was a sigh of relief after enduring a devastating 3-1 defeat at the hands of Nairobi United previously at the same venue.
In his post-match remarks, the Ghanaian tactician said a draw at Gusii Stadium for him was something to be proud of, based on the circumstances that usually surround the particular fixture at Gusii Stadium.

The last time the same fixture was played at the venue in 2025 saw fans of the opposite clash team, leading to injuries after a confrontation ensued. However, on matters of team performance, Akonnor praised his men for the vital point in a challenging environment, though he rued missed chances for the record champions.
Chances
”Both teams created more chances, but for us, we needed not to lose. It was a game that could have gone that way, a derby, a very difficult one and a challenging place to come. The second half was very good, and we are happy that we got good results,” Akonnor said.
Fighting spirit
Even though K’Ogalo did not walk out of Gusii Stadium with maximum points, Akonnor praised his team’s fighting spirit. ”The fighting spirit was key for us; it was not a match that you have to relax, but fight every minute of the game. The boys did very well in that aspect, and so we are content with the results,” he added.

Both teams settled into the match early, testing each other’s defence, but neither could convert their chances in the first half. Gor Mahia forward Jackson Dwang’ came on for injured Ben Stanly just minutes before the break.
In the second half, Gor Mahia pushed for an opener. Felix led the attack, supported by Kapen on the right and Musa Shariff on the left. Despite forcing a few corners and putting pressure on the Shabana goal, the visitors could not break through.
The draw saw Gor Mahia drop to second on the log with 27 points in 14 outings, three points fewer than leaders and their arch rivals, AFC Leopards. Shabana are placed fourth in the standings with 24 points in 16 points.
