CECAFA U18 standings after Pool B round 1 matches

The first-round matches of the CECAFA U18 tournament took place over the weekend, and four teams secured victories in the initial stage.

In Pool B, Tanzania lead with three points after securing a 1-0 victory, while Zanzibar also earned three points with a similar scoreline against South Sudan.

As a result, South Sudan and Uganda find themselves in the third and fourth positions with no points in the pool.

In Pool A, Kenya’s U18 team, the Junior Stars, dominated with a commanding 5-0 win over Sudan, placing them at the top of the pool with three points.

Rwanda secured a narrow 1-0 victory against Somalia, securing the second position in the pool with three points. Both Somalia and Sudan remain without any points in Pool A.

How TZ, Zanzibar won CECAFA U18 openers

In Sunday matches, Tanzania and Zanzibar continued their winning streaks in their opening Group B matches at the ongoing CECAFA U-18 Boys Championship 2023 in Kenya.

In a closely contested match, Tanzania secured a 1-0 victory against Uganda at Bukhungu Stadium. Despite arriving on Saturday, the Tanzanian team demonstrated freshness with Wilson Sharif scoring a crucial goal after 15 minutes.

In the earlier match, Zanzibar defeated South Sudan 1-0, with Moh’d Moh’d Ali scoring the lone goal after 12 minutes.

Despite South Sudan’s efforts to fight back, they were unable to breach Zanzibar’s defensive line. Lazarus Peter George Laku, the 15-year-old top scorer at the recent CECAFA U-15 Boys Championship, featured for the South Sudan team.

The tournament action resumes on Tuesday in Group A, with hosts Kenya facing Rwanda, and Somalia taking on Sudan at the Jomo Kenyatta Stadium in Kisumu.
