CAF CC: Nairobi United holds NEC to continue dream continental run
Nairobi United’s dream run in the CAF Confederations Cup will continue to the second round after the Football Kenya Federation newbies battled to a 1-1 draw against Uganda’s NEC at the Nyayo National Stadium on Saturday, September 27, 2025.
Dancan Omalla’s second-half strike proved sufficient to earn a well-deserved draw to see Naibois progress.
Away goals rule
Despite the draw, the reigning FKF Shield Cup winners secured progress on the superior away goal rule following a 2-2 draw in the first leg in Uganda.
Nicholas Muyoti’s charges, who missed the service of their head coach in both ties, fittingly rose to the challenge with a remarkable debut performance at the continental stage.
They had custodian Kevin Oduor to thank for a spirited display at goal as the last line of the host’s defense.
The clash kicked off with the hosts surviving an early scare thanks to an outstanding Oduor, who parried out an effort from close range.

His heroic performance, however, proved short-lived after the Ugandan rivals took a first-half lead.
Youngster Omalla came clutch when it mattered to bag the leveller five minutes after the hour mark.
Impressive continental Debut
With the results, Naibois bettered the record of Kenya Police, who failed to advance past the first round in their CAF CC debut in the 2024/25 season.
Police FC, under Salim Babu, were held to a 0-0 draw at home and lost 2-1 away to CBE SA, exiting with a 2-1 aggregate defeat in the first preliminary round.
The law enforcers, however, looked destined to make amends, albeit on the CAF Champions League stage, where they carry a comfortable 3-1 first-leg win over Mogadishu City Club from Somalia.
Edward Zakayo, Edward Omondi, and David Simiyu scored the goals in the win on Saturday, September 20, 2025.
The two sides meets this Sunday, September 28, 2025 for the return leg clash at 4:00 pm.
The club will now shift its focus to making its debut in the top-flight football, in the third round after missing the opening two rounds.
