Preparations for this year’s Japan Karate Association (JKA) Kenya Open competition are complete and more than 100 participations are expected to rub shoulders in the day-long competition to be held at Parklands Sports Club tomorrow.

According to the event organiser Caleb Atemi, participants will compete for honours in different categories including the cadets, novice men and women and seniors men and women.

“All the preparations for the event are complete and we expect some of the teams coming from far to arrive today ahead of tomorrow’s action,” Atemi said.

He added: “We will have nine teams taking part in the event and we will award the winners of each of the available categories with trophies as we plan to introduce other attractive prizes as we grow.”

Strathmore who won the overall title during last year’s competition will be sending a strong team as they hope to continue their dominance in the event. They will, however, face off with National Youth Service (NYS), Kenya Forest Service (KFS), rivals Kenyatta University, hosts Parklands Sports Club, JKA Sofia, JKA Migori, JKA Eldoret and Body and Spirit Gym.

“We also plan to grow sports toursim using Karate and that will be the main message during the annual competition that is set to start at 9 am,” Atemi said.

He said that top JKA coaches will grace the event to look at the local talent and probably offer tips to a number of participants during the competition.
