The Kenya Basketball Federation (KBF) has congratulated the U16 3×3 basketball team for their exploits in the Africa Youth Games in Luanda, Angola, where the Lionesses achieved a podium finish.

In a statement on its Facebook page on Saturday, December 20, 2025, KBF hailed the future basketball stars after they finished third in the competition and clinched the bronze medal in the games.

The U16 team achieved a podium finish after ending on a high by edging Tunisia 10-7 to claim the last podium slot in the category.

“Congratulations once again to our young lionesses for winning bronze, closing the basketball year on a high,” the KBF statement read.

Pooled in a three-team Group A, the Kenyan team kicked off its campaign in Luanda, Angola, by edging Tunisia 9–7 in the preliminary rounds.

The budding charges then emerged victorious in a fierce contest against neighbours Rwanda, in a narrow 12-10, with the victory guaranteeing them a ticket to the quarter finals.

Kenya’s dominance in the last eight continued after dominating Namibia 19–5 to storm the next phase and continue their push for a medal.

The U16 girls’ luck ran out in the last four, where they were locked in for a big test against Côte d’Ivoire.

Despite a spirited fight, they failed to seal their ticket to the finals after slumping to an 11-4 loss.
