Address the muddle in FKF Premier League, KCB’s Zico urges organisers

Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) head coach Zedekiah “Zico” Otieno has expressed concern over the uncertainty of the whole Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Premier League programming, saying it has thrown participants into confusion.

Otieno said that the fact that the football Transition Committee has not yet released all the fixtures makes it all too difficult for teams to plan ahead for the season.

“For us, we are currently in the pre-season phase ready for the new season. However, it has become increasingly difficult to prepare because we do not know whether the season shall begin and moreover, all the fixtures have not been released,” offered Otieno after conducting a training session at KCB Sports Club in Ruaraka.

The top-tier league was originally set to kick-off on August 27 but was deferred to September 10 by the committee with KCB set to face Kariobangi Sharks in the first weekend of action. Eight draft fixtures will be on the card

Despite the confusion that the league is mired in, KCB has gone ahead to replenish their squad with some of the best players the top-tier league offered last season in a bid to improve on their seventh placing last season behind AFC Leopards, Nairobi City Stars, Bandari, Gor Mahia, Kakamega Homeboyz and champions Tusker.

Among the big signings by the bankers are former FC Talanta attacking midfielder Francis Kahiro and ex-Bandari man Danson Chetambe Namasaka who previously had a stint with Zoo Kericho.

Chetambe, an out and out midfielder who has an eye for goal, was instrumental for Bandari and is overly desirous to replicate the same at KCB.

“KCB is an ambitious club and I’m happy to be part of their family.

I hope to carry on the good performance with them and hopefully help them win titles.

I believe this is possible for good measure” said Chetambe.

He added: “I am I am here to fight not only for a place in the starting squad but also to help the team to a silverware, God-willing. But for that to happen, we need to work as a team,”

Chetambe and Kahiro are by and large expected to plug several plugs at KCB and especially after the team lost ley players last season among them ex-AFC Leopards fullback in immediate former captain Simon Abuko, one-time Harambee Stars trialist Baraka Badi, Dennis Odhiambo, Robinson Kamura, Dennis Odhiambo, Victor Omondi and Reagan Otieno.
