Ziidi trade scam: Safaricom shares tips on how to spot fraudsters
Safaricom has cautioned Kenyans against a growing wave of scammers targeting users of its Ziidi Trader investment platform, urging investors to remain vigilant against fraudsters using fake trading offers and misleading promises.
In a public awareness campaign shared on its social media platforms on Sunday, July 19, 2026, the telecommunications company said conmen are continually devising new tactics to deceive unsuspecting investors.
“Ma-conman wameingia soko wakiwa na njaro mpya kila siku,” Safaricom said, urging customers to stay alert and avoid falling victim to fraudulent schemes. “Usiache jasho yako iende na maji hivyo tu. Tumebreak down mbinu zote wanazotumia ndio ukae rada chonjo.”
Safaricom highlighted several red flags that investors should watch out for when using Ziidi Trader, warning that any platform claiming stock prices increase by Ksh 50 every two seconds is fake.

“Ukiona bei za Ziidi Trader zinajump na Ksh 50 kila sekunde mbili, ruka hiyo story, real trading haina hizo madrama!” the company said.
Trading on NSE
The firm also reminded investors that trading on the Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE) only takes place on weekdays between 9:30 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.
“NSE hu-operate Mon to Fri, 9:30 AM hadi 3:00 PM pekee. Msee anakuambia u-trade Sunday usiku anakosha macho,” Safaricom warned.
The company further clarified that Ziidi Trader is a self-service platform and does not require customers to send money to individuals or WhatsApp groups for trading services.

“Ziidi Trader ni self-service, so ukiona msee anaitisha pesa ati aku-trade-ie kwa WhatsApp group, huyo ni conman!” it said.Safaricom also cautioned users against downloading unofficial application files or clicking links claiming to offer Ziidi Trader updates.
Legitimate updates
According to the company, all legitimate updates and trading services are only available through the Safaricom My OneApp.
“Ziidi Trader haina ma-link za WhatsApp au ma-file ya .apk. Kila update salama iko tu ndani ya My OneApp pekee,” the company said.

Safaricom reiterated that investing in shares listed on the Nairobi Securities Exchange carries risks, noting that past performance does not guarantee future returns and share prices may fluctuate, potentially resulting in partial or complete capital losses.
