The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has launched investigations into incidents of violence and disruption reported during the Ol Kalou parliamentary by-election, including allegations involving armed and hooded individuals.

In a statement on Sunday, July 19, 2026, the DCI said detectives had commenced investigations aimed at identifying and arresting those responsible for the disturbances witnessed during the poll.

The agency said investigators are pursuing all credible leads through forensic examination of available evidence, analysis of digital material, witness interviews and other investigative processes.

“The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has launched investigations into incidents of violence and disruption reported during the Ol Kalou by-election, including the involvement of armed and hooded individuals,” the statement said.

The DCI pledged that all those found culpable, regardless of their political affiliation or social status, would face the law.

“The DCI affirms that all persons found to have planned, financed, incited or participated in the criminal acts will be brought to justice. No individual will be exempt from the due process of the law on account of status, position or political affiliation,” the agency said.

The investigations come after reports of violence and intimidation marred parts of the by-election, prompting concerns over the conduct of the poll.

The DCI appealed to members of the public with information that could assist the investigations to come forward, assuring them that any information shared would be treated confidentially.

Witnesses and members of the public can submit information through the agency’s #FichuaKwaDCI toll-free line 0800 722 203 or via WhatsApp on 0709 570 000.

The agency said it would provide updates as investigations progress.
