You’ll get yellow fever jab at Sh3,000
Kenyans will be forced to cough Sh3,000 to get a yellow fever vaccine at City Hall from next month.
However, those seeking duplicate copy will pay Sh1,000.
This is according to proposed Nairobi City County Finance Bill, 2023 (draft). Yellow fever vaccine is mandatory for all people seeking to travel to countries that are considered to be vulnerable to the disease. The same dose goes for about Sh5,043 at the airports.
Back in 2020, a shortage of the vaccine at City Hall disrupted plans of many Kenyans seeking to travel abroad.
The last time City Hall had supplies for the vaccine was in late October 2020 because it had not received any fresh stocks despite making requisitions to health authorities.
Shortage came at a time Uganda had issued a red alert following an outbreak of the disease and directed that all travellers into the country should show proof of receiving the vaccination. Yellow Fever is transmitted by a mosquito called Aedes Aegyti, which is associated with tropical and sub-tropical regions.
Other proposed charges as indicated in the draft Bill include typhoid vaccine at Sh2,000, influenza at Sh1,800, and meningococcal at Sh5,000, which is normally recommended for all preteens and teens.
