You have role in fight against graft, EACC tells public

Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has called upon members of the public to take a leading role in the fight against corruption.
Speaking yesterday during the Kenya integrity Plan (KIP), EACC chairperson David Oginde said citizens are key stakeholders in promotion of good governance through public participation, demand for transparency and accountability.
“Good leadership will only come if citizens unite and call off the bad practices in the society. They should raise their voices in condemning all forms of graft taking place in the country,’ said Oginde.
He said all State and non-state actors must play their roles in weeding out corruption, stressing the importance of putting in place mechanisms for whistleblower protection and enhanced good governance.
Attorney General Dorcas Oduor described the plan as a game-changer for the fight against corruption in Kenya.
“The plan is blue print for a better future and its successful implementation requires commitment, collaboration and sustained action from all of us,” she said.
On his part, CEO EACC Abdi Mohammed said fighting corruption requires proper collaboration in order to seal all the loopholes.
“I invite all to reflect on how to effectively prevent and combat corruption in our institutions and communities. We must approach it as a multi-faceted problem that requires coordinated efforts, pro-active measures and sustained commitment from all sectors of society,” he said.
The Kenya Integrity Plan (KIP) provides a framework through which various sectors and citizens come together to fight corruption and promote ethics and integrity amongst its members and society at large.
The Forum’s strategic goal for the next five years is to have an enlightened community on ethics and integrity and improved institutional integrity by the end of the plan period.
The plan requires an estimated Sh657.4 million for successful implementation. It has been proposed that the resources will be mobilised by the government through EACC, development partners and other member institutions.
