Widow held over husband death
The mystery surrounding the murder of a doctor in Nandi county has taken another twist after one suspect admitted to detectives that the wife of the deceased was involved.
The late Dr Caleb Tanui, a Narok county based gynecologist was found dead near his home in Nandi county on April 10 this year. Three suspects, among them his wife Vivian Tanui, have already been arrested in connection with the murder and are set to be arraigned later this week.
People Daily established that one of the suspects singled out the wife of the deceased as one of those who planned for the doctor’s murder after Nandi elders performed a ritual to curse those involved after his burial.
The elders are said to have performed traditional rituals and cursed the killers and on Friday, one of the suspects came out detailing how he was given Sh3,000 to carry the body of the medic and dump it in a thicket near his home.
Nandi Central police boss Doris Chemos said that residents of Cheperit location told police that one of the suspects went round seeking forgiveness from elders over the medic’s death leading to the arrest of two more suspects among them the wife of the deceased. — Wycliff Kipsang
According to Chemos, the suspect took villagers to the spot where the decomposed body of Dr Tanui was discovered which prompted irate members of the public to block the highway.
“The suspect promised to tell Kenyans how the doctor met his death after the payment of Sh3,000 to carry the body from his house to the nearby bush. Our initial investigations revealed that the body could have stayed in the house for two days,” Chemos told People Daily.
Nandi County Deputy Commissioner Obedi Mose said the suspect told police that the Narok based doctor did not die as a result of alcohol as it was claimed soon after he went missing on March 31.
