Wetang’ula pays condolence visit to Jirongo’s Lumakanda residence
National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula has paid a condolence visit to the home of the late former Lugari Member of Parliament, Cyrus Jirongo, in Lumakanda.
Wetangula was accompanied by his close allies, who are Bungoma MPs, on Wednesday, December 24, 2025, to Jirongo’s home, where they were received by the late leader’s senior wife.
Other leaders present during the visit included Bungoma Woman Representative Catherine Wambilianga, Bungoma Senator Wafula Wakoli, Siaya Governor James Orengo, and the host, Lugari MP Nabii Nabwera.

He eulogised Jirongo as a close political ally and a national leader.
Currently visiting the Lumakanda home of the late Hon. Cyrus Jirongo to convey my condolences to his family following his passing.
“Hon. Jirongo was a close political ally and a respected national leader. Present are Siaya Governor H.E. James Orengo, Senate Chief Whip Hon. Wafula Wakoli, MPs Hon. Martin Pepela, Hon. Catherine Wambilyanga, Hon. George Wajackoyah, and the host, Hon. Nabii Nabwera,” Wetang’ula said.

Jirongo’s death
Many inconsistencies have surrounded Jirongo’s death, with friends and family calling for speedy investigations into what might have led to his demise.
An autopsy was recently conducted on the father of 38 by government pathologist Johansen Oduor, who established that the late Jirongo died from blunt force trauma to the chest, which led to his instant death. The pathologist also found evidence of internal bleeding and spinal injury.
Leaders from the region have urged the country not to rely solely on the autopsy findings and instead allow for further investigations. Questions have also been raised over why passengers who were on board the Climax bus heading to Busia have not come forward to give their accounts, leaving only the driver to explain the incident.
Itinerary of Jirongo’s body

It will then be taken to his Gigiri residence, where it will spend the night before being airlifted to his Kitale home, which also serves as his second wife’s residence, on Sunday, December 28, 2025.
The body will leave Kitale on Monday morning, December 29, 2025, for his Lumakanda home in Lugari Constituency, where he served as a Member of Parliament, ahead of his burial on Tuesday, December 30, 2025.
