The Federation of Women Lawyers in Kenya (FIDA-Kenya) has reaffirmed its support for the family of Sharon Otieno ahead of the High Court judgment in the murder case scheduled for Thursday, July 23, 2026.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, the organisation said it continues to watch brief for Sharon’s family and remains committed to supporting them as they await the court’s decision in Republic v Obado & 2 Others (Criminal Case No. 46 of 2018).

FIDA-Kenya said it has stood with the family throughout the judicial process as they seek justice following Sharon’s death.

Case before the High Court

Sharon Otieno was abducted on September 3, 2018, and her body, together with that of her unborn child, was found a day later in a thicket near Kodera Forest in Homa Bay County.

Former Migori Governor Okoth Obado, Michael Oyamo and Caspal Obiero were charged with her murder. The case has since become one of Kenya’s most closely followed criminal trials.

During the proceedings, the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions presented evidence from 42 prosecution witnesses, including witness testimony, SMS messages, WhatsApp communications and mobile phone call records.

Among the witnesses were PW9 and PW38, whose testimony placed one of the accused among the people seen with Sharon during her abduction and before her death.

The trial has taken several years to conclude, with court proceedings also affected by disruptions during the COVID-19 pandemic.

FIDA-Kenya backs judicial process

Ahead of the judgment, FIDA-Kenya expressed confidence in the court process and said it trusts the court’s determination will be based on the evidence presented during the trial.

“As the Court prepares to deliver its judgment tomorrow, FIDA-Kenya reaffirms its confidence in the administration of justice and its commitment to supporting Sharon’s family throughout the process. We trust that the Court’s determination will be guided solely by the evidence presented and the applicable law,” the organisation said in a statement signed by Chairperson Christine Kungu.

FIDA-Kenya also confirmed it will issue a further statement after the judgment is delivered.

Judgment expected Thursday

The High Court at the Milimani Law Courts is expected to deliver its judgment on Thursday, July 23, 2026, bringing to a close a case that has remained in the public spotlight for nearly eight years.

The proceedings have attracted national attention since the killing of Sharon Otieno and her unborn child in September 2018.

The court’s decision will conclude a trial in which prosecutors relied on witness testimony and digital evidence presented over several years.

FIDA-Kenya said it will continue standing with Sharon’s family throughout the conclusion of the case and after the judgment is delivered.
