We’ll sue over Embakasi titles, splinter group warns
By Alvin.Mwangi, July 13, 2023Fresh wrangles have erupted at the Ruai-based Embakasi Ranching Company after some members threatened to sue President William Ruto for presiding over the issuance of title deeds while there is still an active case in court barring the same.
The group led by James Njoroge, who is a chairman of a splinter group, said that President Ruto committed an illegality.
According to Njoroge, the Lands Ministry is taking a shortcut to sanctify irregularities that had been going on in the ranch as the government watched without intervening.
“ We are contemplating going to court. Our President did a wrong thing to preside over the event despite there being an active case in court. He should be held accountable because he was lied to by people who have grabbed our land,” said Njoroge.
Njoroge said their efforts to have a meeting with top government officials have not been successful.
“ The truth is that all those who were issued with titles are not the real owners. We have over 3,000 members and none of my members received the titles,” he said.
The official said the original shareholders’ register had 3,500 members while the ministry has compiled one that has 35,000 primary and secondary shareholders, arguing that it was not possible to have had legal transactions that added 27,000 shareholders.
