Weatherman issues 7-day marine forecast for Kenya Coast
By Emmanuel Rono, March 11, 2026The Kenya Meteorological Department has released a seven-day marine forecast warning of moderate sea conditions along the Kenya Coast and the western part of the Indian Ocean.
According to the latest advisory from the department on Wednesday, March 11, 2026, the Kenyan coastal waters and the Western Indian Ocean will experience a stable weather pattern over the coming week.
Winds are expected to originate primarily from the North-East and East, maintaining speeds between 2 and 20 knots (approximately 1 to 10 meters per second).
The report further indicated that the sea state will be slight to moderate while the wave heights are forecasted to remain manageable, ranging from 0.2 meters to 1.6 meters.
“The latest Marine Forecast for the Kenya coastal waters and the Western Indian Ocean is now available. Expected conditions: Winds generally North-Easterly to Easterly, about 2–20 knots (1–10 m/s), wave heights: around 0.2 – 1.6 metres and Sea state: slight to moderate,” Kenya Met noted.
Wave Height and Wind Speed
The department noted that on Wednesday, March 11, 2026, significant wave height and wind speed (wave scale in metres; wind scale in m/s) will be: Wave height: 0.2 m to 1.5m (≈ 0.6– 4.5ft) 10 m and winds: 02-20 knots (≈ 1 – 10m/s).
Thursday March 12, 2026: Wave height: 0.2 m to 1.7m (≈ 0.6–5.1 ft) 10m Winds: 01-21 knots (≈ 0.5–10.5 m/s), Friday 13th March, 0.2 m to 1.7m (≈ 0.6–5.1 ft) 10 m and 02-22 knots (≈ 1 – 10.5 m/s), Saturday 14th March,: Significant Wave Height and Wind Speed will be 0.3 m to 1.6m (≈ 0.9– 4.8 ft). 10m Winds: 02-20 knots (≈ 1 – 10 m/s).
The report further indicated that on Sunday, March 15, 2026, significant wave height and wind speed will be 0.5 m to 1.6m (≈ 1.5–4.8 ft). 10m Winds: 02-21 knots (≈ 1 – 10.5m/s) while on Monday, March 16, 2026, it will be 0.4 m to 1.5m (≈ 1.2– 4.5 ft). 10m Winds: 01-16 knots (≈ 0.5 – 8m/s)
On Tuesday, March 17, 2026: Wave height will be at 0.4 m to 1.5m (≈ 1.2– 4.5ft) 10m while Winds will be 02-18 knots (≈ 1 – 9m/s).

The weather department has encouraged the mariners, fishermen, and people who live near the coast to stay alert and check the weather regularly before going out to sea.
“Mariners, fishermen, and coastal communities are encouraged to keep track of the latest forecasts and advisories when planning marine activities,” Kenya Met stated.
