We are ready to listen – Kindiki invites youths to engage govt
Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has challenged the Kenyan youth, popularly known as Gen Zs, to engage the government in constructive ways to address the challenges they face.
Speaking on Friday, September 5, 2025, to a delegation comprising Kenyan students in Algiers, Algeria, the DP underscored the government’s readiness to listen to every Kenyan’s pleas and work towards making the country better.
“We are ready to listen; we are not perfect, we can improve. Every citizen has something they can do or say that can add value to the development of the nation. What we can’t accept is disruptive behaviour like violence and lawlessness. We will end up losing the country,” he stated.
While acknowledging the importance of keeping the government accountable, he emphasised that grievances and agitations from citizens should be made within the confines of the law.
“Let us strike a balance. Young people of Kenya, nobody says you don’t ask the hard questions. If you think you have issues you need to bring to our attention, tell us. But don’t resort to running down the country and endangering public safety,” he added.
The DP also commended the students for maintaining fine conduct abroad, while encouraging them to be on the lookout to exploit existing programs aimed at supporting them to make sound career choices and further their education..
His sentiments were mirrored by the National Assembly speaker, who also cautioned the delegation of Kenyan students in Algiers to desist from perpetual activism.
Activism
Wetang’ula noted that the constant clamouring for individual rights had become a stumbling block to various development programs initiated by the government.
“I encourage you to work hard and be good ambassadors and citizens. When you come back, bring the discipline you have in this country back to Kenya.
“In Kenya, we have too many haki zetu that have derailed part of our programs because everybody must have their way. It is a good thing, and as humans, we must be ready to sacrifice a few of our comforts for the better of society,” he noted.
