Githunguri MP Gathoni Wamuchomba has clashed with Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen after receiving what she described as unsatisfactory answers concerning the whereabouts of the Kware murder suspect who escaped from police custody in Gigiri.

While responding to the CS after demanding to know the specific steps that had been taken by the ministry and investigative agencies to re-arrest the suspect on Wednesday, August 13, 2025, the MP lost her composure as she expressed frustration over the response given.

She stated that it was unacceptable for the Cabinet Secretary to confirm that his ministry could not apprehend a suspect who was previously in their custody. She rejected the explanation provided, arguing that it offered no hope to the victims of the Kware incident.

“I refuse to sit in this house to listen to the CS confirm that his ministry can’t be able to capture suspects who were previously in their arms in custody. I refuse to listen in this house to such a kind of explanation. I refuse to listen to the answer he is giving,” Wamuchomba fumed.

Wamuchomba questioned what kind of hope the CS was offering to grieving families when he appeared to suggest that the suspect might remain at large indefinitely. She stressed that it had been months since the suspect disappeared and that the affected families were still in pain and mourning their loved ones.

“It’s not right for the CS to answer the question and tell us the suspect disappeared, and he is not giving us hope. Which hope is he giving the victims of Kware? What hope is he promising? Is he telling us that he is going to wait for the suspect to disappear forever?” she added

She further criticised the CS for asking members of the public to help in capturing the suspect, noting that the responsibility lay squarely with the authorities who had initially detained him before his escape.

Murkomen’s answer

This comes after Murkomen told the National Assembly that investigative agencies have taken necessary steps to help trace the suspect who escaped from police custody, urging Kenyans to help DCI with any information regarding the fugitive through their hotline.
