Vihiga: Police nab 4 in Luanda, seize over 10 litres of chang’aa
The National Police Service has announced the arrest of four people in Luanda following a targeted patrol aimed at cracking down on illicit brews and narcotics in the area.
In a statement shared by the Service on X on Thursday, December 4, 2025, officers attached to Luanda Police Station said they conducted a targeted night patrol on Wednesday, December 4, 2025, evening, following reports of escalating illicit alcohol trafficking and related criminal activity in the area.
According to the police, the operation recorded notable success, leading to the seizure of more than 10 litres of chang’aa and the disruption of suspected illegal brewing and distribution networks. The Service said the crackdown forms part of enhanced patrols aimed at curbing substance abuse, reducing crime, and restoring public safety within the locality.
“Yesterday, officers from Luanda Police Station on patrol conducted a successful operation against illicit brews and narcotics within the Luanda area and arrested four individuals for possession of over 10 litres of illicit brew known as ‘Changaa’,” the statement reads.

According to NPS, the suspects were immediately taken into custody as officers launched the necessary legal processes to prepare them for court appearance.
“The suspects were taken to the station and placed in custody for processing and arraignment in court, while the exhibits were secured in the same facility,” the Service added.
The crackdowns come at a time when several regions across the country are battling the proliferation of illicit alcohol, which authorities say is not only dangerous to consumers but is also linked to rising crime, health risks, and loss of livelihoods among the youth.
In its statement, the National Police Service reassured the public that operations against illegal brews and narcotics will continue, emphasising that community safety remains a priority.
“The National Police Service reiterates its commitment to eradicating illicit brews and narcotic drugs within the community,” NPS said.
Police said the four linked to the illicit trade will be presented in court once processing is completed.
