Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua has accused unnamed rogue police officers and leaders allied to the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) of plotting to disrupt voting in the Ol Kalou by-election, urging security agencies to act swiftly to prevent violence.

In a statement issued on Thursday, July 16, 2026, Gachagua claimed that plainclothes police officers were being used to interfere with the electoral process, warning that they posed the greatest security threat.

“Bwana IG, I told you that rogue police officers in plain clothes are your weakest link. They are the source of insecurity in the country,” Gachagua said, adding that he had previously called for their withdrawal from Ol Kalou.

Attacks on key polling stations

The former Deputy President further alleged that UDA-allied Members of Parliament were holding meetings with the officers to orchestrate attacks on key polling stations, disrupt voting and stuff ballot boxes.

“Having sensed defeat, UDA-allied MPs are allegedly meeting with rogue police officers to storm major polling stations, disrupt voting, and stuff ballot boxes,” he claimed.

Gachagua challenged the Inspector General of Police to immediately deploy uniformed officers to stop any attempts to interfere with the election.

“If you are not part of this scheme, you have a duty to order the uniformed police officers, who are armed, to stop them and prevent any disruption. If you do not, then you are part of the scheme and must take responsibility for any violence that may occur,” he said.

He also appealed to election observers, local and international media, social media users and members of the public to head to Huruma Polling Station, St. Joseph and AC Primary School polling stations to monitor and document any attempted disruption.

“I urgently request election observers, the international media, local media stations, social media users, and everyone with a camera to proceed to Huruma Polling Station, St. Joseph and AC Primary School to document any attempted attack or disruption,” he said.

Gachagua urged residents to remain vigilant and protect the identified polling stations, while warning that the Nyandarua County Security and Intelligence Committee would bear full responsibility should violence erupt.

Gachagua on Mathira MP

Gachagua has also accused Mathira MP Eric Wamumbi of mobilising groups of young people to disrupt voting in the Ol Kalou parliamentary by-election.

Speaking during a telephone interview with Kameme FM presenter Muthoni wa Kirumba on Thursday, July 16, 2026, Gachagua said he had received information that a group was travelling to Ol Kalou in a matatu escorted by a private Subaru.

“I have just received reports that there are youths who have been mobilised by Eric Wamumbi, the MP for Mathira.

“They are en route to Ol Kalou in a matatu belonging to one of the companies from Mt Kenya. The convoy is being led by a private Subaru,” Gachagua said
