USIU-Africa gets new Vice Chancellor
University Council of the United States International University-Africa (USIU-A) has appointed Professor Margee Ensign as its new Vice-Chancellor.
Prof Ensign will take over from Prof. Freida Brown on September 1, 2022.
“Prof. Ensign has an outstanding track record with a stellar academic career including 12 years as a successful Vice-Chancellor in Nigeria and in the US, where she was a formidable ambassador and successful fund-raiser.
“Her experience leading two very different organizations as Vice Chancellor will enable her to address the challenges and opportunities for USIU-Africa,” the university said in a statement.
The new VC has experience in teaching, research, publishing, and administration, and has led her to experience working in numerous international environments including Rwanda, Uganda, and Nigeria.
Prof. Ensign currently serves as the President of the American University of Nigeria (AUN) in Yola, where she had been President from 2010 to 2017.

USIU-Africa VC transition
“The University Council would like to take this opportunity to thank Prof. Freida Brown for her magnanimous facilitation during the transition between our former vice-chancellor and Prof. Ensign.
“Words cannot express how grateful we are as the University community for your selfless service to this institution,” USIU-A added.
Prof. Brown has been serving as Vice Chancellor of USIU-A since January 1994.
Since heading the university she has seen the student population grow from 1,100 students to 4,700 as well as growth in the number of faculty and academic programs.
