Uhuru succession: Muturi, Karua, Kituyi gang up ahead of 2022 polls
In a new twist of political formations and alliances, Makueni Governor Kivutha Kibwana, NARC Kenya party leader Martha Karua together with National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi and UNCTAD Secretary General Mukhisa Kituyi have unveiled a new political vehicle ahead of next year’s general elections.
The leaders, three of whom harbor presidential ambitions unveiled Muungano wa Wazalendo translated as Unity of Patriots following talks with their host Governor Kivutha.
At their Thursday, September 2 meeting in Wote, Makueni, the politicians said they will work together to ensure they bag the victory in the presidential election.
Speaker Muturi said that the new formation needs blessings from and God and Kenyans, conjecturing that they do not need any blessings from other leaders in the country.
“I am asking that you may support us so that we walk together to ensure we get accountable leaders who have your issues at heart,” Muturi said.
While addressing journalists, Speaker Muturi said the new alliance will be holding meetings in future.
The leaders however said they are open to talks with other likeminded leaders interested in the presidency.
Karua said that its time the country embraces change in how its affairs are run.
“We cannot change this country by doing things the same way. We must depart from our chaotic and divisive politics to chart a new path for Kenya. We also need new leaders free from corruption,” Karua said.
The NARCK Kenya party leader also asked Governor Kibwana who is serving his final term in office to annoint a successor.
“The kind of development I have seen here in Makueni is great. Governor Kibwana think carefully on who succeeds you, otherwise this development will be futile,” Karua said.
On August 12 Karua’s NARC Kenya, Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria with his Chama Cha Kazi (CCK) and Mwangi Kiunjuri’s The Service Party’s (TSP) teamed up in a move to cater for the interests of Mt Kenya and the nation as a whole.
“We commit to working together on issues affecting our region and nation. This initiative in the next three months will culminate into the ‘Limuru 3’ conference where we can be able to make resolutions on how to conduct our affairs,” Karua said.
