Uhuru set to deliver keynote address at Future Africa Leaders Awards in Nigeria

Retired President Uhuru Kenyatta has arrived in Lagos, Nigeria, ahead of the highly anticipated Future Africa Leaders Awards.

The event is an initiative that recognises and supports young Africans demonstrating exceptional leadership in education, youth empowerment, and mentorship.

The office of Kenya’s 4th President, in a statement shared via X on Wednesday, December 31, 2025, revealed that Kenyatta is scheduled to deliver the keynote address at the event, which celebrates outstanding contributions by the continent’s emerging leaders.

Uhuru to announce the winner

During the ceremony, he will also announce the winner of the Star Prize, the awards’ highest honour, aimed at spotlighting transformative young leaders who have made a significant impact in their communities.

“His Excellency President (Rtd) Uhuru Kenyatta has arrived in Lagos, Nigeria, ahead of the Future Africa Leaders Awards ceremony, an initiative that identifies, celebrates, and supports young Africans who have demonstrated exceptional leadership by positively impacting their generation through education, youth empowerment, and mentorship,” Kenyatta’s office stated.

“Kenyatta is scheduled to deliver the keynote address at the event and announce the winner of the prestigious Star Prize, the event’s highest recognition.”

Kalonzo accompanies Uhuru

The retired President was accompanied by former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka.

The Wiper Patriotic Front (WPF) party leader departed the country on Wednesday morning following an invitation from the event organisers, led by African Leaders Awards (AFLA) Founder Chikki Onigbanjo. Kalonzo is attending the ceremony as an honoured guest.

”The Office of the Wiper Patriotic Front (WPF) Party Leader wishes to announce that H.E. Dr Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka, EGH, SC, CS, this morning travelled to Lagos, Nigeria, to attend the Future Africa Leaders Awards ceremony,” the statement read in part.

The high-profile event is taking place on Wednesday, December 31, 2025, evening, at the Loveworld Nation Arena, Aseese Base in Lagos, and brings together leaders and changemakers from across the continent.

WPF said Kalonzo’s invitation recognises his distinguished leadership record and recent international accolades. Notably, he was recently honoured with the London Political Summit and Awards (LPSA) 10th Anniversary Africa Political Leader and Personality of the Year Award.
