Two people confirmed dead after building collapses in Embakasi

By , December 6, 2019

Two people have been confirmed dead after six-storey building collapsed at Tasia Estate in Embakasi East Constituency on Friday morning.

Nairobi Regional Commissioner Wilson Njega confirms that the operation carried out by Kenya Defense Force (KDF)  is going on successfully where eight people have been rescued and other two retrieved while dead.

He added that preliminary report indicates the building collapsed due to structural defects.

He also clarified that the building had 57 rooms and not 46 as earlier reported.

According to an eye witness, the building came tumbling down at around 9am.

Hundreds of people have gathered to watch from nearby buildings as emergency responders prod at the pancaked structure.

Building collapses are common in Nairobi, where housing is in high demand and unscrupulous developers often bypass regulations.
