Trans Nzoia leaders appeal for more food donations

Leaders from Trans Nzoia county have appealed for more food donations from the State.

Speaking in Minex Trans Nzoia East Sub County, the leaders said most of the people who lost their jobs will need food aid in the coming days.

‘’In just a few weeks,  the pandemic has exposed the extraordinary fragility of the food system. And we are extremely worried that the country may not  be able to withstand the growing pressures expected in the coming weeks and months if food rations will not have been given to all’’, said Sitatunga ward representative Daniel Kaburu.

He thanked the State for sending some food supplies.

Cherangany MP Joshua Kuttuny asked the State to intervene for the elderly and the sick.

Sitatunga chief Joseph Wayele said between 100  and 1200  peoples are affected by severe food insecurity or loneliness, so having to self-isolate could topple them into crisis.

“These numbers show the massive scale of the food aid challenge from Covid-19,” he said. “Government leadership to deliver a properly coordinated response with local authorities, charities and businesses is desperately needed.”
