Kenya Simbas went back to their winning ways against Zimbabwe at the Nakuru Athletic Club with a 36-14 win to end Sables unbeaten run and closing the third edition of Victoria Cup second behind the two-time champs.

The Sables first defeat on Kenyan soil pleased Simbas skipper of the day Samson Omsomu who made his 27th cap at 27 years at the full house Nakuru Club that also savoured hosting its first international fixture.

“I am honoured to captain the young side that has brought glory on home soil. This season we have had a big pool of many young players who have been exposed and tested by head coach Paul Odera.

One of the brilliant players discovered is Vincent Onyala. He has the wheels and understands the game and we wish him all the best in his upcoming Shujaa assignments,” Simbas skipper Samson Onsomu told the People Sport.

On their runners-up finish, Onsomu hopes Simbas polish up and return stronger to claim the title next year.

“We have won four matches but two losses to Uganda and Zimbabwe have cost us the cup but we will return stronger for the next title,” said Onsomu.

Simbas won the return fixture courtesy of five tries, four conversions and a penalty against their opponents’ two first-half converted tries.

The return result in Nakuru reflected Simbas try scoring consistency against the Sables with an improved defensive play that contributed to Simbas conceding just a try in each half.
